Built for comedians at every stage

Write more. Find your angle. Test what works.

Comedy Mate gives you the reps, the structure and the feedback to turn noticing into material.

52 writing drills

Focused exercises across four stages: loosen up, find the angle, build the thing, cut it down. Nearly five thousand prompts behind them.

The joke funnel

Move ideas from a rough noticing to material you can take on stage. Every version of every joke is kept.

The tape

Record your set, play it back and mark where the laughs land. See laughs per minute for each bit.

Show up. Get better.

A lifetime attempt counter, a garbage counter to be proud of, and a thirty-day showed-up strip. Effort, never a score.

How it works

Every great bit starts somewhere.

Capture it. Shape it. Test it. Keep making it better. Material moves down the funnel when it earns it, and goes back up when it doesn't.

Work the Jokes: the funnel with 7 ideas, 2 with a take, 3 drafts, 1 tight, 1 performed and 3 working.

A Detail Mine session on 'Yearbook signatures', with four lines written toward a quota of twenty.

Writing drills

The blank page doesn't stand a chance.

Choose a drill, put in the reps, and build a habit that gives your best ideas room to show up.

  • Exercises to loosen up: Detail Mine, Irritation Log, Nobody Says This, Oddity Hunt, The Rant, Bad Advice.
  • Development to find the angle: Five Attitudes, Forced Bridge, What's Really Going On.
  • Construction to build it: One Setup Ten Punchlines, Tag Ladder, Act-Out Conversion.
  • Polish to cut it down: Cut 30%, Strike the Word, Reverse Engineer.

Nothing in a session judges what you write. Junk a line and it goes on the garbage counter, which only goes up.

The tape

Learn from the room.

Record the set. It keeps recording if you lock the phone. Afterwards, play it back and tap LAUGH where the laughs land.

  • Laughs per minute for each bit, mapped to your set list.
  • Know which bit worked, not which one you remember working.
  • You mark the laughs. Comedy Mate does the math.
  • Recordings never leave your phone.

Your jokes. Your voice. Your business.

Your unfinished ideas and best punchlines belong to you. Comedy Mate has no servers of its own to send them to.

  • No account. No sign-up, ever.
  • No analytics, no tracking. The App Store privacy label reads Data Not Collected.
  • Your device and your iCloud. Material syncs through your private iCloud. Recordings stay on the phone that made them.

FAQ

Questions comics ask

Is Comedy Mate for beginners or experienced comedians?

Both. It's built on one idea: volume beats judgment. Comics who write badly every day end up with more good material than comics who wait for good ideas, whether it's your first open mic or your thousandth.

Does Comedy Mate write jokes for me?

No. It won't write a joke, rank your jokes, or score you. The on-device intelligence does two things only: it suggests prompts, and it notices premises you keep circling back to.

Do I need an account?

No. There's no account and no sign-up.

Where are my jokes and recordings stored?

On your device and in your own private iCloud, which is how your material reaches your iPad. Recordings never leave the device that recorded them. The privacy policy has the details.

Can I record sets and track laughs?

Yes. Record a set (it keeps recording if you lock the phone), then play it back and tap LAUGH where the laughs land. Comedy Mate works out laughs per minute for each bit on your set list.

Is there a free trial?

Yes, seven days on the monthly and yearly plans, once per Apple Account. Cancel at least 24 hours before it ends and you aren't charged. Lifetime is a one-time purchase with no trial.

What devices are supported?

iPhone and iPad running iOS 26 or later. The iPad gets its own layout, not a stretched phone.

Is it on the App Store yet?

Not quite. Comedy Mate is in App Review. This page will link to the App Store as soon as it's live.
